Megan Litkenhous Dr. Lois Scheidt Computer and Information Ethics December 12, 2016 Wearable Technology and Data Privacy The purpose of this research is to summarize conclusions based off consumer behavior attitudes towards wearable technology and data privacy issues. Younger generations are growing up with information technology at the forefront of their development, which means the way society views technology and privacy is changing rapidly. It is not uncommon to see toddlers interacting directly with technology, as more parents and educators embrace the use of technology. Wearable technology is being used by children in classrooms during fitness period to track how many steps each student is taking, and by parents who use wearable to track their child’s movements through GPS. The older generations are also embracing technology in ways that weren’t possible even a decade ago, such as helping seniors communicate with their health care providers without having to leave their homes. These trends make it possible to measure the time spent wearing technology, and asking open-ended que stions that test consumers comfort level with sharing personal information with a group of unknowns. The study also researches the benefits that wearable technology can have with sharing while also having anonymity, and introduce how wearable technology is changing the way society responds and views privacy.
